CUPPING Ancient Remedies With Advance Applications Cupping is a technique used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It involves placing cups on the skin. Vacuum is applied to the cups and the skin under the cup experiences a suction effect. The cups are usually left on the body for 5-15 min before being removed. Brief and light massage will then be applied to the cupped area once the cups are removed. You will immediately notice the strength or intensity of the vacuum but after a minute or so, it subsides. ​ Cupping draws more blood into an area, which can relieve muscle tension through improved blood flow. It also improves oxygen supply, which aids in optimum function of the body part. ​ After treatment, the skin under the cup may become bruised and discolored. A small area of about 4 cups starts at 20 dollars and as the body sections or number of cups in one area increases, so does the time and price. A cupping session does not include anything but cupping however a bodywork session such as aromatherapy for massage or meridian detoxification might include cupping at the discretion of the therapist at no additional charge.
