Moxibustion
Service Description
MOXIBUSTION Ancient Remedies With Advanced Applications Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy which involves burning dried plant materials called “moxa” near the surface of the skin. Moxa is usually made from dried leaves of Chinese mugwort (Artemesia argyi or A. vlugaris). To use moxibustion, moxa is compressed into a stick or pole. This is lit and allowed to smolder. The moxa is held over specific areas, often corresponding to acupuncture points. It may be used in conjunction with acupuncture to further each others’ effectiveness. We do not use this method due to the risk of fire codes Other methods use modern foot devices, eye goggles or heat lamps which provide heat and the aromatic benefits of Moxa. We use all of them. Moxibustion can be used to treat arthritis, digestive problems, gynecological and obstetrical conditions, and provide protection against the cold and flu. Specific health benefits of moxibustion can include: • Stimulating circulation and improving the flow of qi. • Expelling cold and dampness from the body (“warming the meridians”) to relieve back pain and pain from arthritis and menstrual camping. Moxibustion is used for: • Pain due to injury or arthritis, especially in "cold" patterns where the pain naturally feels better with the application of heat. • Digestive problems and irregular elimination. • Gynecological and obstetrical conditions, including breech presentation in late term pregnancy.
